AutoDNS is built on a strict privacy-first foundation. The application collects zero personally identifiable information (PII), contains no advertising SDKs, performs no analytics or user behavior tracking, and communicates with no remote servers. All automation runs exclusively on your local device.
1. Information We Collect
We collect no personal data whatsoever. AutoDNS does not require account creation, does not ask for your name, phone number, email address, IP address, or device identifier (IMEI/Android ID).
2. Device Permissions & Why They Are Required
To automate Private DNS switching according to your configured preferences, AutoDNS requests specific system-level permissions. Here is an explicit, transparent accounting of why each permission is utilized:
Purpose: Starting with Android 8.1 (API level 27) and strictly enforced in Android 10+, Google's Android Framework mandates location permissions in order for applications to read the Wi-Fi Service Set Identifier (SSID / Wi-Fi Network Name). AutoDNS requires this name solely to match against your configured "Target Wi-Fi" rule.
🛡️ Guarantee: AutoDNS never accesses your physical GPS coordinates, never performs geocoding, never records location history, and never transmits Wi-Fi or location data off your device.
Purpose: Android protects Private DNS settings (mode and custom hostname) within the protected system table (`Settings.Global`). AutoDNS uses this permission strictly to toggle between "Off", "Automatic", and "Custom Private DNS" when you connect or disconnect from your designated Wi-Fi networks. This permission is granted once by the user via ADB or Shizuku.
Purpose: A low-overhead foreground service is required by Android OS to register active network callbacks that listen for Wi-Fi connection and disconnection events in real time. The persistent notification provides instant user transparency showing the currently applied DNS mode and network.
3. Third-Party Services and Analytics
AutoDNS integrates no third-party SDKs:
- No Google Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics
- No Facebook SDKs or AdMob trackers
- No external telemetry, metrics, or diagnostic uploads
- No outbound internet access permissions (
android.permission.INTERNETis not utilized by the core automation engine)
4. Data Storage and Retention
All user preferences (such as target Wi-Fi names, selected DNS mode, custom DNS hostname, and local event logs) are stored strictly on your local device using Android encrypted SharedPreferences. Uninstalling the app permanently purges all local configuration.
5. Children's Privacy
AutoDNS does not knowingly collect or solicit personal data from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). The app does not collect personal data from any user regardless of age.
